Prospects:

Elliot Eliason

Height: 6′11”
Weight: 240
Position: Center
High School: Chadron HS (Chadron, NE)
AAU: Nebraska Bison (Red)
Rivals: * * *
Scout: * * *
ESPN: 90
Creighton Offer: YES
Offers: Colorado St., Nebraska, Washington St.
Notes:
-
Eliason of the Nebraska Bison Red, is a huge kid. Standing 6-foot-11, 240-pounds, the center is a solid looking mid-level big man.
Eliason is a solid post player who is a key player for the Nebraska Bison Red. Eliason showed good hands and post foot work but must improve his athleticism and his reaction time inside. He has a nice turn around jumper and jump hook to score inside over more athletic posts as well as he is a good passer out of the post. He definitely needs to add strength to his frame and he should be able to improve his agility which will help him expand his shooting range to 14-15 feet.

Creighton Offer: YES
Offers: Northwestern, Northern Iowa, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Bucknell
Notes:
-
The versatile 6-foot-4 combination guard moved the ball well and did an excellent job of setting up his teammates for open looks at the basket.
- He rebounds and he defends very well for a point guard. His basketball I.Q. is through the roof. He’s a very smart kid who understands the game very well.

James Moore

Height: 6′9”
Weight: 190
Position: PF
High School: Jesuit High
AAU: Bay Area Hoosiers
Rivals:

ESPN: 89
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers:
Notes:
- #1 ranked college prospect in Northern California for upcoming 2009-2010 high school season, per CalHiSports.com
-
Moore was one of the major surprises of the Fullcourt Press All Frosh/Soph camp. He has a very intriguing frame with long arms and broad shoulders. He’s a bouncy athlete who has a great feel for the game, especially in the paint area. He is very active around the basket and he has the ability to use either hand when finishing. In addition, he is one of the better passers for his size in the state. He rarely forces the action and makes good decisions most of the time. His shooting touch is solid out to about 15 feet, but he needs to extend his range. Overall, Moore is a solid “four-man” prospect for the mid-major level and with another few inches added to his already impressive frame he could go higher.

J.j. O’Brien

Height: 6′6”
Weight: 215
Position: PF

High School: Alta Loma HS (Alta Loma, CA)
AAU: IEFP
Rivals:
Scout:
ESPN: 87
Creighton Offer: YES
Offers:
Notes:
-
O’Brien is a solid looking prospect for the mid-major level due to his skills and savvy. He is best described as a hybrid undersized 4-man who can beat defenders in many ways. He has a decent frame with fairly long arms, but he isn’t athletic enough to play the three at either end. He doesn’t have great lateral quickness and he isn’t very bouncy, but he has improved his perimeter skills since his sophomore campaign. He does a great job of coming off of screens and getting into a triple threat position. He utilizes the pump fake very well to get around defenders as well. He doesn’t have a great burst, but he does have a strong frame to separate himself from defenders. His mid-range pull up is quite good and he is equally adept at finding teammates off the dribble. However, he needs to make a more concerted effort (plays passive at times) in the area of rebounding. Overall, O’Brien is a solid basketball player for the Division I level, but his upside appears to be limited due to his lack of elite athleticism.

AAU: Wisconsin Swing

- Kelm has been unable to participate in summer AAU tournaments because on an injury

Ricky Kreklow

Height: 6′6”

Weight: 185
Position: SF/SG

AAU: KC Pump n Run
Rivals:
Scout: ***
ESPN: 90
Creighton Offer: YES
Offers: Missouri, Missouri St., Southern Illinois, St. Louis, Virginia
Notes:
He’s not a kid who wows you with his athleticism, in fact he’s a little bit stiff and plays very upright. However, the rangy winger has deep range on his high arching jumper, a pretty release and a quick trigger. His outside shooting draws attention, but his skill as a passer and a guy who can free himself for looks away from the ball are big reasons why he’s emerging on high major radars.
-
We need to see him more, but we liked what we saw out of the 6-foot-6 forward. He’s a versatile guy that can really pass and shoot
- Missouri & Creighton in his top two (05.11.09). If Minnesota offers they would enter his top teams.

Doug McDermott

Height: 6′7”

Weight: 185
Position: SF
High School: Ames HS (Ames, IA)

AAU: Martin Brothers Select/Net Gain Sports
Rivals: * * *
Scout: * * *
ESPN: 85
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers: South Dakota, North Dakota, Albany
Notes:
- Talented forward really put in a great day of work and has his club off to an undefeated start at a tough tournament. He did an excellent job of finishing in transition and showed the ability to be an effective, aggressive defender on the perimeter with his length, compensating for any perceived lack of lateral quickness. While his father will want him in Iowa State Cyclone threads, there’s a buzz about the young McDermott here after only one day. (ny2lasports.com)
- McDermott continued his strong play on day three and is finally beginning to find a comfort level with the Net Gain Sports squad. McDermott can knock down the open jumper past the three-point line and has some deceptive athleticism to his game. He’s most comfortable in transition where he can finish above the rim, or spot up on the perimeter.
- When you talk about shooting the basketball Net Gain Sports is putting on a clinic and combined with the likes of Chanse Creekmur, Cole Stefan, etc. Doug McDermott stepped up yesterday with a lights out shooting performance yesterday as he continues to elevate his stock with solid performances at the Summer Jam.
- Active and versatile wing player will also be capable of transitioning to the four spot with additional strength. Beats his man down the floor in transition and loves to attack on the break. McDermott is also capable of stepping out and knocking down mid-range jumpers off the catch. A fundamental prospect, the son of Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott works to contest shots and rebound, and doesn’t mind contact in the lane.

Jordan Dykstra

Height: 6′9”
Weight:
Position: PF
High School: Rock Valley Christian (Rock Valley, IA)
AAU: Martin Bros.
Rivals: * * *
Scout: * * *
ESPN: 70
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers: Iowa St.
Notes:
- Long and wiry, Dykstra is a big man who understands the game, and recognizes the importance of positioning in the post. A recognized name on the circuit because of his verbal commitment as a high school freshman, the rising senior is back on the market and looking for a suitor. With a developing back to the basket game, and a deceptive ability to utilize ball fakes and foot speed, he’ll be a target for many.
– Skilled four-man with understanding of the game and his position, Dykstra can knock down the open jumper with time and space, and is a crafty finisher around the rim. His face-up skills include the ability to pass the ball from the high post as well as attack the rim from the elbow. He proved be a solid rebounder when establishing position in the paint and has adequate length and athleticism to defend the four spot on the floor.

-
KC/MO Spiece MoKan’s Frank Williams made at least five 3-pointers. Presently he doesn’t have any offers. This weekend should remedy that situation.
- Williams is a Kansas St. fan and if offered has said they would be the leader for his signature

D.J. Peterson

Position: SF

High School: Hopkins Sr. (Minnetonka, MN)
AAU: Howard Pulley
Rivals:

ESPN: 86
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers:
Notes:
- Playing a combo guard role for his squad, Peterson has sacrificed his own offensive production for the betterment of the team. Talented off the bounce, Peterson can score from mid-range or finish through contact in the lane. His ability and willingness to pass the ball at this event has shown a new level of selflessness associated only with the biggest winners.
- Versatile left-handed prospect has the skills necessary to play any position in the backcourt on both ends of the floor. One of the more underrated athletes at the event, Peterson completes drives with craftiness from the wing, and can create for others off the bounce. He also made open shots off the catch and has the size to easily pass over and around defenders. A valuable asset for his team, his size and skill set left a number of coaches intrigued.

Notes:
- Big time football star would be interested in TE role with Huskers over many basketball offers.

Flavien Davis

Height: 6′5”

Weight: 200
Position: SF
High School: Wisconsin Lutheran (Milwaukee, WI)

AAU: Wisconsin Scholars
Rivals: * * *
Scout: * * *
ESPN: 94
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers:
Baylor, UW-Green Bay
Notes:
- It’s been nearly two years since we’ve watched this 6-foot-4 wing, and honestly he appeared to be the same player. In this one he looked a bit out of shape and at times uninterested. In the second half against SW Ill. Jets, Davis was more aggressive on the offensive end and showed nice touch on his floaters in the lane. He hit a pair of jumpers, but the majority of his buckets were in the paint. Going forward he needs to show more desire and intensity throughout the contest.
- Talented lefty forward is continuing to work on his body and the conditioning and strength training are allowing him to excel. Capable of playing a point forward role as well as the slashing wing position, Davis has a versatile offensive game and can knock down the perimeter jumper if left open. He’s been active on the glass here, and recorded a double-double before his squad was eliminated just shy of the semifinals.
– The forward did himself right, logging his best performance in quite some time in a tough loss to Team Detroit. Davis’ length and aggression going to the rack frustrated opponents and his jumper from the outside was falling as well. An advanced ball-handler from the wing position, some often refer to Davis’ style as an “old man’s game”, but that’s a compliment noting his smooth style and patient, attacking offensive skills.
-
Skilled forward showed the ability to raise his level of play in a bracket match-up against Team Detroit. While not exceptionally quick or explosive, Davis has many offensive tools and has an inside-outside game, complete with a post-up arsenal and the ability to slash from the wing. Throw in the capability of banging home outside jumpers when left open and he falls into the category of an excellent scoring wing. His recruitment should begin at the mid-major level with high-majors continuing to track his progress.

Chad Calcaterra

Height: 6′10”

Weight: 230
Position: PF
High School:Cloquet Sr. (Cloquet, MN)

AAU: Howard Pulley
Rivals: * * *
Scout: * *
ESPN: 86
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers: Minnesota, Auburn, Colorado St., Northern Iowa, UW-Green Bay, Harvard
Notes:
-
Given his size, above average hands and body that can be worked with, he will get high level looks. When he plays aggressively like he did early Saturday, he can be pretty effective. Capable of attacking the rim, he causes defenders with his size and relative comfort with his back to the basket. Now, it’s time to be more consistent with his effort.
College coaches are always on the hunt for a big guy, and in addition to being a true center, Calcaterra is also a tremendous student. An Ivy League-type recruit because of his abilities on the hardwood and in the classroom, Calcaterra is at his best in the post. While a bit mechanical, he’s active in the post, and ran the floor well enough to be involved on both ends of the court. With good hands and a strong frame, he’ll be a solid finisher before long.

Chip Rank

Height: 6′6”

Weight: 200
Position: SF
High School: Cedarburg HS (Cedarburg, WI)

AAU: Wisconsin Swing
Rivals:
Scout:
ESPN:
Creighton Offer:
Offers: St. Louis, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, North Dakota State
Notes:
-
Chip Rank of the Swing-Selk is a tipoff-to-final buzzer competitor who has a bunch of mid-major offers. In addition to his prowess on the basketball court, Rank may also garner some NCAA Division I interest in football and could wind up with scholarship offers from high major schools in that sport as a quarterback.
- Physically, Chip is very developed. His determination and his drive are unbelievable for a kid his age. The other kids really look up to Chip. He needs to develop a little more explosiveness to go along with his strength, but I think that will happen because of his intense determination.
-Rank continued to showcase his toughness and double double mentality – NY2LA

Trevor Releford

Height: 5′11”

Weight: 175
Position: PG

High School: Bishop Miege (Shawnee Mission, KS)
AAU: KC Pump n Run
Rivals:
Scout: * * *
ESPN: 93
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers: Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, UCLA, Kansas St., Minnesota, Illinois St, Missouri St, Wichita St.

Notes:
- Releford
is more than comfortable in an up and down setting where he can use his speed to his advantage. Friday night, the 5-foot-11 floor general showed that he could also lead his team in a grind it out game while still picking his spots to get to the rim and delight the crowd with his ball handling and passing antics
-
For the second weekend in a row, Releford was rolling off the dribble. His handle and creativity off the bounce stack up against anybody’s in the country, he has an extra gear and is a long armed finisher with either hand around the bucket. He and his team came up one point short in a late Saturday playoff game, but it wasn’t for a lack of his playmaking.
-
Every event we attend there’s a guy that surprises us with his play. This time around, it was this 5-foot-11 floor general that drew our eye. After a so-so game on Friday, buzz drew around him on Saturday setting up for a big Sunday from the standout at Shawnee Mission (Kans.) Bishop Miege.

Releford is as good of a handler as we’ve seen in this class. On top of that he’s got terrific speed and can quickly change directions. When by defenders, Releford has a floater in his arsenal, but often times will drop off passes to teammates for open buckets.

- Word is Releford stepped up his play during his junior season, and on Friday we saw an improved 5-foot-10 floor general. He’s got a flair to his game that makes him especially fun to watch. He’s a tricky ball handler, has solid court vision and is tough to keep out in front due to his speed. High majors are starting to take a peek, and we think it’s warranted.

Rivals:

Notes:
-
There aren’t many guys in the country better at knocking down three balls than this 6-foot-3 two-guard. Thomas, a standout at Columbia Heights (Minn.) High, has a quick trigger with range that extends at least two feet behind the three-point arc. The talented shooter drained at least six threes in the Panthers opening round win.
- Widely seen as the best player in Minnesota for the upcoming 2009-2010 season.
- Grades could be an issue.
Impressive athlete from the off-guard slot, Thomas has exceptional scoring and passing abilities. With a quick release and significant range on his jumper, the talented guard was one of the better pure scorers in attendance. He got it done off the catch and off the dribble, and was a reliable finisher in transition who beat his opponent down the court with ease. Capable of putting up big time numbers in quick spurts.

A slender kid who can run, he hit on a bevy of mid range jumpers, wheeled for finishes in the paint and ran the court very well. He’s willing to fight a little despite his slim frame and looks like a potential mid level prospect as a face up four man

Tray Vonn Wright

Height: 6′7”

Weight:
Position: SF
High School: Waterloo West (Waterloo, IA)
AAU: All Iowa Attack (Red)
Rivals:
Scout:
ESPN: 90
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers:
Notes:
-
Trayvon Wright of the All Iowa Attack Red looks a little more comfortable. The skinny power forward’s go to move is, and will likely always be, the dunk. But, he’s working harder on the glass, running the floor just a little harder and swatting a few more shots. He’ll be a priority recruit in the Missouri Valley before summer’s end at the rate he’s going
– Bouncy forward is an impressive athlete and has been consistent in his production throughout the first two days. A double-double threat, Wright alters shots, and has a unique feel for the ball coming off of the rim. Tremendously mobile, he has exceptional lateral quickness for a post player, and can gain position against bigger opponents with advanced footwork and speed.
- A real surprise/sleeper of the tournament. Wright is very long and extremely athletic insider. He is an explosively quick leaper who was active around the basket, in transition, and on the defensive end blocking shots as well as chasing rebounds. His lack of strength did show as he was pushed out of the way in the post at times and he isn’t especially skilled with the ball. But he has long arms and plays hard and with added strength, he should develop into a nice prospect.
– The elite frontcourt athlete of the NY2LASports.com Next Level Invitational, Wright is an explosive leaper with length. Active around the basket, he was constantly on the prowl for dunks at shot blocking opportunities at the rim. Any perceived lack of strength, both with his upper and lower body, was not exploited at this event, as Wright adequately defended the post by altering shots and using his quick burst off the floor to out-rebound bigger opponents. Great showing for the co-M.V.P. of the 17u Platinum Division.

Jordan Salley

Height: 6′6”
Weight: 230
Position: C
High School: La Verne Christian (La Verne, CA)
AAU:
Rivals:
Scout:
ESPN: 79
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers:
Notes:
- Salley, a lefty, has very long arms and uses this length to crash the boards on both ends of the floor. He scores on offensive rebounds put-backs and runs the floor reasonable well, which leads to easy finishes on the break. Salley has very good strength and powers up in traffic and finishes with bodies hanging on him. Salley generates power in the strong lower half of his body and has the capacity to add even more strength. His quick leaping ability allows him to play an active brand of basketball and get to offensive boards before the opposition. Salley, especially since he is undersized, needs to improve his post footwork and add counter moves to his game.

Paul Jesperson

AAU:
Rivals:

ESPN:
Creighton Offer: NO
Offers:
Notes:
- The top performer in his class on Day 1, Jesperson had his trademark three ball falling, and rebounded well from his position. Extremely patient on offense, Jesperson never forced the action, and always seemed to pick the perfect time to attack the rim or let it fly. A shooter first, he uses a ball-fake to get defenders off balance, and can knock down the mid-range shot off the bounce.
- Skilled wing was the top marksman in the 16u division and could certainly make a case to challenge 2010 standout Chanse Creekmur as the best shooter at the 2009 NY2LASports.com Next Level Invitational. While he plays a bit upright defensively and is not as fluid of an athlete as some of the other elite prospects who attended, Jesperson offset his lack of athleticism with an extremely disciplined game and enormous skill set both handling and rebounding the basketball.

Angelo Chol

Height:6′8”

Position: C
High School: Hoover HS (San Diego, CA)
AAU: LA Pump’n'Run
Rivals: * * * *
Scout: * * * *
ESPN: 96
Creighton Offer:
Offers: Washington, Arizona
Notes:

- After a slow start (U16 National Team Trials), Chol was arguably the most impressive performer the 2nd day of the trials. This lefty has a nice frame, soft hands, and has an innate ability to convert in the paint area. He loves turning over his right shoulder (like most lefties) and he is very methodical while scoring over the opposition. He has a deadly jump hook where he gets nice lift and his touch is feathery. In addition, he can drop step and dunk when there is little traffic. He is getting more productive in the mid-range area as well and put together a few possessions where he took his defender off the bounce. His jump shot, on the other hand, is still a work in progress. He has a slow and very high release (winds up) and he doesn’t follow through (short arms it) on many of his attempts. Defensively, he has nice timing and is a potent shot blocker. Overall, Chol definitely helped his stock with his performance in Colorado Springs.

Defensively, he gambled a bit, but he jumped into the passing lanes for steals on several occasions throughout the day. Without question, this young man possesses the physical skills of a high level prospect.
- Co-MVP of 2009 Next Level Invitational (16u)
- While not as tall or as built as his older brother, current Iowa State forward L.A. Pomlee, the younger Pomlee is an advanced wing prospect with comparable athleticism and bounce to his older sibling. A streaky shooter from deep, Pomlee does the majority of his damage slashing to the cup and posting smaller backcourt defenders. The leader guard also stood out with his ability to advance the ball in transition.  Paige helped lead Martin Brothers Select to the 15U ship and turned in an M.V.P. performance in the process as he was poised, skilled, instinctive, and dominating whenever his team needed it the most.

- Long and lean, Agau doesn’t have much help in his age group, but does have the tools to be an impact player in the coming years. With an impressive wingspan that suggests he’ll continue growing well into the seven foot range, and a long stride that helps him sprint the floor with ease, the young big man is just starting to figure it out. More of a defensive presence who alters or blocks everything, his footwork is coming around so the offensive light bulb should begin flickering sooner than later.

- Scoring forward is getting it done for his team and has been their most consistent all-around player. More than willing to get on the boards and defend the opposition’s best player, Zellar is a new name in his age group worth following as he appears to have some more growing to do. As he gets stronger it should be assumed that he’ll become an even better finisher than he is right now.

  1. AJ Says:

I can’t believe that Creighton, does not want Jarrel Crayton of Bellevue East. This kid is one of the best in the area. Very disappointed in their decision not to recruit Jarrel.

  2. Cjoey Says:

I agree with you AJ. I think JC would be a great fit for creighton. Although I have heard he could have problems qualifying, and heard from a good source that he will surely go to a Junior College and try to get on a squad after his freshman or sophomore year.

  3. gtmoBlue Says:

It is reported that Crayton has grade issues, will not qualify. Nothing the Jays can do about it.

Perhaps after 1-2 years in JUCO?

There are other PF and Ctr candidates available until then.

  4. gtmoBlue Says:

Are Jamaree Strickland (McClymonds) or Perry Ellis (Wichita) on the 2012 list?

  5. Cjoey Says:

Ellis is most likely a Harrison Barnes type recruit; i.e. Duke, Kansas, UNC will be in the hunt, even though he is from Wichita. Strickland might be more reasonable to follow, but he is also a top talent and will be tough to pry away from the Pac-10 schools.

  6. Matwittagat Says:

This Ellis is agreat player very nice frame nice scorer rebounder In my mind I see him at a Duke or a Kansas. This Strickland kid is really good to he has a solid body also a really successful inisher in the paint area, I see him at a Pac 10 or a Big 10 school.

  7. AJ Says:

Well I’m disappointed that JC of Bellevue East grades might be the issue, I really feel sorry for this kid.I hope JC really makes it in life. He’s a great kid but when I first saw this kid my heart went out for him, I feel as CU would have been perfect for him not only as a basketball player but a person overall!Grades being the issue seems so minut to me. I really would like to have seen JC really get an opportunity on this level. This is really bothering me I know that basketball is not the answer to everything but for an African American male its sometimes the ticket. How is it that his grades suddenly became an issue, Did coach Ryan know this and if so, was there a tutor available? maybe this would have help and prepared him for Creighton? Maybe its the motherly love in me that has me upset.

  8. Adam Says:

Anybody know where Deverell Biggs is going? I can’t imagine if Creighton hasn’t talked to him yet.

  9. Cjoey Says:

Have been reading up on Biggs and sounds like the AAU season could make or break him as it goes for a D1 shot. I am personally a fan of his, as I am of most of the local products (Jones, Young, Crayton, Lampkin), but I don’t know how serious the Jays are looking at him. The kid is a super athlete and can jump out of the gym, but I have a feeling Dana/Fish/D-Rock will turn their attentions to other areas for the 2010 class.

  10. gtmo Says:

Why is Angie Chol still on our list?

It has been stated and is Quite obvious that the Jays cannot compete with the BCSers. Angie has shot up the charts on the WC – we Obviously have not shot at signing him now. Probably go PAC-10, why is he still listed?

  11. gtmo Says:

The Iowa 2012 recruits, the Martin’s Bros Select kids are one special group. They have already proven to be major players on the national AAU scene. Hopefully we will be able to hold over 2 or 3 scholies from 2011 in order to land a couple of these guys. By the time they graduate HS they will be ‘Heck on wheels’.

Do you know if we have offered Bonilla yet?

  12. Ty Says:

How is Zach Hoey not on this list? He is one of the most pure shooters in the 2012 class.

  13. Scott Says:

There are some pretty special player coming in at Des Moines Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa that you should check out.

  14. LMFAO Says:

Dude, that pic of Adam Woodbury is not Adam Woodbury. It is high school teammate Jeff Sponder.
