Valley Television Update

In my previous post, I had mentioned an update from MVC commissioner Doug Elgin on the Valley’s television package for this year.  But thanks to Mr. Jack Watkins from the Missouri Valley Conference, here is more detail on what the Valley has for TV this year.  It sounds like now that the TV packages won’t be announced until October:

We are still finalizing our men’s basketball packages for ESPN2, ESPNU and FSN Midwest.  By contract, ESPN can make changes to our lineup up until Sept. 15 and FSN can alter its package up until Sept. 30.  As a result, we will not announce our package until early October.

In the interim, we will have a regular-season non-conference game (Evansville chose to go to North Carolina), four regular-season conference games on ESPN2, seven regular-season league contests on ESPNU, two non-conference games on ESPNU and the championship game of the men’s tournament on CBS Sports.

On FSN Midwest, we will have 16 regular-season games, four quarterfinals and both semifinals.

In terms of KMTV, I believe it is televising either eight or 10 Creighton regular-season games

Mr. Watkins wanted to point out in addition that the Evansville vs. North Carolina game on ESPN is not part of the Valley’s package.  Evansville chose to go play at North Carolina and TV was included in NC’s package to get the games setup.

In my own research, it appears what we know are on TV at this point in addition is Wichita St. vs. Georgetown as part of the Old Spice Tourney on 11/27 on ESPNU and Drake @ Iowa St. on 12/9 on ESPNU.  Missouri State has their game vs. Southern Illinois on 2/7 listed on their website’s schedule as being on ESPN2.
